Living The Dream – A Message From The Academy Director

Welcome to the FSu Basketball Academy. My name is Brynjar Karl and I'm the Academy Director and Head Coach of FSu Basketball.

TEAMbasketI want to share with you my excitement about having the opportunity of building a vision. Our mission at the FSu Basketball Academy is no less than creating the ideal environment for coaching and playing basketball.

As a basketball coach who has coached for two decades, I'm living the dream.

At FSu we have been presented with a great opportunity to achieve our mission. Everything from our athletes and facility to our sponsors and teachers is exceptional. The amount of high-quality time we have with the athletes enables us to teach more than just basketball, which we believe is very important.

A Holistic Approach To Basketball Coaching

Simply put, we work with the big picture. A great emphasis is placed on the way we behave, the way we condition ourselves, our ways of thinking, and the attitude we bring to work both off and on the court.

Our competition is appropriate and challenging. The Academy uses state-of-the-art advanced technology for the purpose of game analysis, coaching organization and management. Technology plays a big role in our teaching, reinforcement and communication. The physical, psychological, basketball and social skills of the players are measured and monitored on a regular basis.

I grew up in the traditional European club environment, later in life getting the chance to play at the US High School and College level. Having experienced and observed the advantages and disadvantages between the European and the US system of coaching basketball, I believe that we will be successful in combining the best of both worlds at the FSu Basketball Academy .

I have been fortunate to get the chance to travel around the world meeting and working with many great coaches that have been willing to share their philosophy and ideas. The best way I know to show my gratitude is to share the knowledge right back with you.

I'm filled with enthusiasm when I think about all the drills, exercises, tactics, methods and philosophy that we will have the chance to share with you. It is my hope that this website will continue connecting me and the FSu Basketball Academy with the world of basketball, knowing that my greatest lessons have been learned by sharing ideas with others.

FSu Basketball Academy

The academy was founded 29th of July 2005 in Selfoss Iceland . The academy is a private project in association with Sudurland College . The academy consists of 16 student-athletes from the age 15 to 19. They attend school and are accommodated at Sudurland College. 4 students are recruited every year to replace 4 graduating students.

The main purpose of the academy is to create unique development environment for promising Icelandic basketball players in the age group from 15 to 19 years. Each year, the academy plans on recruiting the four most promising basketball players while at the same time graduating four individuals prepared to excel in the game of life.

The secondary purpose of the Academy is to promote the idea of effective coaching organization and management through our website.
